Description
Description
This Securit louvre vent is a white plastic ventilation cover sized to a double brick course opening (9 x 6 inch), designed to fit into a wall, door or duct where background ventilation is needed. The vent uses angled slats, set between 30 and 45 degrees, so air can move freely through the opening in both directions, while wind driven rain is shed away and larger debris is kept out. It is a simple, effective way to ventilate a room, sub floor void or appliance space.
Key Features
- Tough white plastic build that will not rust or need repainting
- Mid sized 9 x 6 inch vent, covering two standard brick courses
- Removable flyscreen that clips out of the frame for a thorough clean and clips straight back in afterwards
- Free air space of 13800 sq mm, the actual open area available for airflow
- Marked suitable for venting gas appliances
Free air space is always less than the outer size of the vent, since the slats and surrounding frame reduce the opening, and it is this figure that is checked against building regulations rather than the overall vent dimensions. UK Approved Document C requires background ventilation of suspended timber floors of at least 1500 sq mm per metre run of wall, or 500 sq mm per square metre of floor area, whichever is the greater, with vents positioned on at least two opposite sides of the building to allow cross ventilation.
How to Fit a Louvre Vent
For a like for like replacement into an existing airbrick or terracotta frame, simply unscrew or unclip the old cover and fit this vent using the same fixing holes, without needing to touch the surrounding brickwork.
When fitting into a new opening in a solid wall, the mortar is chiselled or drilled away to the size of the vent frame, the vent is then bedded onto fresh mortar and tapped flush with the wall, and the joint around the edge is pointed to match the existing brickwork.
How to Clean the Flyscreen
The flyscreen on this vent is removable, meaning it clips out of the frame so it can be taken out completely, cleaned properly of dust, cobwebs and debris, and clipped back in once done. This is particularly useful in dustier locations such as sheds, garages and workshops, where a fixed flyscreen, riveted permanently into the frame, can only ever be wiped clean while still fitted.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a louvre vent?
A louvre vent is a ventilation cover made from angled slats, usually set between 30 and 45 degrees, fitted into a wall, door or duct opening to let air pass through while keeping out wind driven rain and larger debris.
How do you clean a louvre vent?
Wipe the louvre slats down with a damp cloth, then unclip the removable flyscreen from the frame so it can be cleaned of dust and debris away from the wall before being clipped back into place.
What is the difference between a fixed and a removable flyscreen vent?
This vent has a removable flyscreen that clips out of the frame for cleaning and refitting. A fixed flyscreen vent has the mesh riveted permanently into the frame, so it can only be wiped clean in situ.
How do you fit a louvre vent to a terracotta frame?
Remove the old cover from the terracotta or airbrick frame by unscrewing or unclipping it, then fit this vent into the same fixing holes for a quick, straightforward swap.
