Description

The Securit Aluminium Louvre Vent 9 x 9 Inch is a fixed ventilation louvre designed to fit a standard three brick course opening in a wall, door or duct. Made from strong, weather resistant aluminium, the angled slats let air pass freely in both directions while shedding wind driven rain and keeping out larger debris. Suitable for both interior and exterior use, this metal vent is also rated as suitable for venting gas appliances, unlike plastic vents, making it a reliable choice for larger openings that need more airflow, such as floor voids, utility rooms and boiler enclosures.

Key Features

  • Durable aluminium construction, stronger and more weather resistant than plastic vents
  • 9 x 9 inch (approximately 229 x 229mm) size, fits a standard three brick course opening
  • Free air space of 9750 sq mm, the actual open area that allows air to pass through
  • Suitable for interior and exterior installation
  • Suitable for venting gas appliances, unlike plastic louvre vents
  • Angled slats provide natural ventilation while shedding driving rain

How to Use / How to Fit

If you are replacing an old airbrick cover or terracotta vent, unscrew or unclip the existing cover from its frame and fit this aluminium louvre vent in its place using the same fixing holes. This straight swap takes only a few minutes and refreshes a tired or damaged vent cover.

If you are fitting the vent into a brand new opening in a solid wall, chisel or drill away the mortar to create a clear opening of the correct size. Bed the vent onto fresh mortar and tap it flush with the surrounding brickwork, then point the joint around the edges to match the existing pointing. Building regulations call for background ventilation of at least 1500 sq mm per metre run of wall, or 500 sq mm per square metre of floor area, whichever is greater, with vents fitted on at least two opposite sides for cross ventilation, so check the free air space needed for your project before fitting.

FAQs

Can I use this vent for a gas boiler?
Yes. This aluminium louvre vent is suitable for venting gas appliances, so it can be used to provide combustion air or general ventilation near a gas boiler or other gas appliance. A plastic vent is not recommended for this purpose because plastic can distort or degrade near flue heat.

Why choose aluminium over plastic?
Aluminium louvre vents are stronger and more weather resistant than plastic ones and they keep their shape better over time. They are also rated for use near gas appliances, which plastic vents are not.

Do louvre vents leak in the rain?
The angled slats are designed to shed wind driven rain while still letting air pass through, so a properly fitted louvre vent like this one keeps the weather out while maintaining ventilation.

How do I fit this vent?
For a straight swap into an existing frame, remove the old cover and fix the new vent using the same screw holes. For a brand new opening, chisel out the mortar, bed the vent in fresh mortar, tap it flush, then point around the edges to match the surrounding brickwork.
