FAQs
Is Sandtex Smooth Masonry Paint waterproof and breathable?
Yes. It's a microporous, breathable coating that lets trapped moisture escape from brick and render while resisting rain getting in, so it protects the wall without trapping damp behind the paint film - and it's rainproof within about an hour of application in good drying conditions.
Can you use masonry paint on wood or metal?
No. Sandtex Smooth Masonry Paint is formulated for masonry surfaces - render, roughcast, pebbledash, concrete, building blocks and facing brick - not wood or metal. For those surfaces you'll need a dedicated wood or metal paint instead.
How many coats of Sandtex masonry paint do I need, and how long does it take to dry?
Two full coats are recommended on bare or previously unpainted masonry (a sound, previously painted wall may only need one coat as a refresh). It's touch dry in 3-4 hours and can be recoated after 3-4 hours in good conditions - always check the tin for the latest guidance.
Where can I buy Sandtex masonry paint?
Right here - every tin in this collection is genuine Sandtex Smooth Masonry Paint. Sandtex is also stocked at builders' merchants and DIY retailers including Wickes and Screwfix, so it's worth comparing before you buy.
How much wall will a 150ml Sandtex tester cover?
A 150ml tester pot is meant for testing a colour on a small patch of wall before you commit to a full tin, not for covering a whole elevation - at Sandtex's published coverage of 12-16m² per litre, expect enough for a couple of small test patches, not a full wall.
