Sikkens Cetol Filter 7 Plus 1L, Dark Oak (009)

A warm, mid brown dark oak tone that adds depth to the timber without looking heavy. This 1L tin of Sikkens Cetol Filter 7 Plus is a highly translucent, medium build, solvent borne exterior wood stain in a satin finish. It is formulated with advanced UV filters and a moisture vapour permeable film, which protects timber from sun damage while letting trapped moisture escape, giving up to 5 years of protection from weathering as part of a full coating system.

Where To Use It

Sikkens Cetol Filter 7 Plus is designed as a topcoat for exterior timber that is regularly exposed to sun and rain. Typical uses include:

• Windows and window frames, in softwood or hardwood
• External doors, including panelled and glazed doors
• Fascias, cladding and other exterior joinery
• Gates, fences and garden structures made from planed timber
• Feature timber such as pergolas and decorative trim

It is not recommended for decking, flooring or any surface exposed to heavy foot traffic or abrasion, since the satin film is not designed to withstand that level of wear. It is also not suitable for interior use.

How to Use

1. Prepare the surface thoroughly. Because Filter 7 Plus is highly translucent, it will highlight rather than hide any staining, old coatings or filler beneath it, so sand back and clean the substrate before starting.
2. Prime bare or new timber first. On new or bare wood, apply Sikkens Cetol HLS Plus as a base coat before topcoating. On existing, sound Filter 7 Plus systems, this product can be applied as a one coat maintenance refresh.
3. Stir thoroughly and apply undiluted with a good quality soft bristle brush, working in full, flowing strokes along the grain.
4. Avoid over brushing. Working the stain too much thins the film and reduces weather protection, so aim for an even coat rather than just a decorative one.
5. Apply two coats over new or bare timber, allowing the recoat interval below between coats, and keep the gap between coats to under a month.
6. Work in the right conditions. Apply between 5°C and 35°C, avoid application above 85% relative humidity, and do not apply if rain is forecast before the coating has dried.

Colour note: Dark Oak gives good depth and richness on hardwood joinery. Avoid applying it over timber that is already dark, since very dark on dark can flatten the look of the grain rather than enhance it.
