Purdy has been making paint brushes in America since 1925 and is now part of Sherwin-Williams, and Pro-Extra sits within the Monarch XL Elite family as the professional trade tier, using the same tapered, flagged synthetic filament construction as the standard Monarch XL Elite but geared toward decorators who need a dependable brush for everyday work.
At 2 inches wide, this brush is the all rounder of the set. It is wide enough for doors, cabinets, furniture and longer trim runs, yet still narrow enough to cut in confidently around walls, ceilings and architraves. The Chinex, Tynex and Orel filament blend picks up a strong load of paint and lays it off evenly, and the brush is suited to both oil based and water based paints, including emulsion, which is why it is often the first brush decorators reach for on a job.
How to Use
Dip the brush around a third of the way into the paint and tap off any excess against the side of the tin instead of wiping it across the rim. Apply in smooth, even strokes, working along the grain on wood and in consistent passes on walls. Keep a wet edge to avoid overlap marks and work in sections you can comfortably finish before the paint starts to dry. Clean the brush immediately after use, with warm soapy water for water based paint or a suitable cleaner or white spirit for oil based paint, then reshape the bristles and let the brush dry flat or hanging.
