Description
Description
Purdy Monarch XL Elite Paint Brush, 4 Inch / 100mm
The Monarch XL Elite is one of Purdy's premium brush ranges, drawing on manufacturing experience that goes back to 1925 and continues today under the Sherwin Williams group. The 4 inch, 100mm brush is the largest in the range, built with the same tapered, flagged synthetic filaments as the rest of the line but sized to cover ground quickly on bigger, flatter surfaces. This purdy 4 inch paint brush is the one most decorators pick up when a job calls for coverage rather than fine detail, while still keeping the smooth, even finish the Monarch XL Elite line is built for.
Best Use For This Size
Use this brush on larger flat areas such as fence panels, sheds, wide skirting runs, cupboard doors and other broad surfaces where a narrower brush would slow the job down. It is not intended for fine cutting in, for that the 1 inch or 1.5 inch Monarch XL Elite brushes are a better fit, so many decorators keep this 4 inch alongside a smaller size to cover both jobs.
How To Use
- Dip roughly a third of the filament length into the paint and tap off the excess rather than wiping it against the tin.
- Apply the paint in broad, even strokes across the surface, reloading regularly since a brush this size covers ground quickly.
- Finish with a light laying off stroke over the whole section to even out the coat and remove brush marks.
- Clean the brush straight after use, warm soapy water works for water based paints while oil based paints need the correct solvent, then reshape the filaments and leave the brush to dry flat.

FAQ
Is this brush suitable for exterior gloss paint?
Yes, the filaments are designed to handle any oil or water based paint, so it works well with exterior gloss and satin as well as emulsion on larger indoor surfaces.
How do I clean a brush this size?
Remove as much paint as possible first, then wash it with warm soapy water for water based paint or the appropriate solvent for oil based paint, rinsing thoroughly before reshaping and drying it flat.
Is the 4 inch brush good for cutting in?
No, it is built for covering large flat areas quickly. For cutting in and detail work, choose the 1 inch or 1.5 inch Monarch XL Elite brush instead.
