Description

Purdy Monarch XL Elite Paint Brush, 2 Inch / 50mm

The Monarch XL Elite is one of Purdy's premium brush ranges, built on nearly a century of brush making experience that stretches back to 1925 and continues today under the Sherwin Williams group. Many decorators consider the 2 inch, 50mm version the best purdy paint brush to own first, since it is wide enough for doors, frames and general woodwork yet still narrow enough for careful work around fittings. Like the rest of the range, this purdy 2 inch paint brush uses tapered, flagged synthetic filaments that carry a generous load of paint and release it evenly for a smooth, professional finish.

Best Use For This Size

This is the size most decorators reach for on doors, door frames, skirting, banisters and general woodwork, and it also copes well with painting smaller flat panels. It strikes a good balance between coverage and control, which is why it is often the centre piece of a purdy brush set alongside a narrower 1 inch brush for cutting in and a wider 4 inch brush for large flat areas.

How To Use

  • Dip around a third of the filament length into the paint, tapping off the excess rather than wiping it across the tin's edge.
  • Apply the paint with long, even strokes along the length of the woodwork, keeping consistent pressure so the coat stays uniform.
  • Finish with a light laying off stroke in one direction to remove any ridges before the paint starts to dry.
  • Clean the brush straight after use, warm soapy water is enough for water based paints while oil based paints need a proper solvent, then reshape the bristles and let the brush dry flat.

FAQ

Is this brush suitable for gloss paint on doors?
Yes, it is designed to work with any oil or water based paint, so it performs well with gloss and satin finishes on doors and frames as well as emulsion on walls.

How do I clean this brush properly?
Rinse or wash out the paint immediately after use with warm soapy water or the correct solvent, work the filaments gently to remove all residue, then reshape the tip and dry flat.

Should I buy this size on its own or as part of a set?
The 2 inch works well on its own for doors and woodwork, but many decorators prefer to combine it with the 1 inch and 3 inch or 4 inch sizes to cover detail work and larger areas too.
