Description

The Purdy Angled Flex Joint Knife 3 Inch has a cranked, angled blade purpose built for internal corners, the one place a flat bladed joint knife cannot sit flush. The angle lets you draw joint compound into the corner and smooth both sides at once, without the blade digging into one wall or leaving a gap on the other. Purdy is an American decorating brand, part of Sherwin-Williams, well known for high quality brushes, rollers and prep tools used by professionals and DIYers alike.

This 3 inch (75mm) angled blade is designed for internal plasterboard corners, wall to ceiling angles, and tight reveals around windows and doors where a straight blade struggles to keep an even line. The handle also has a reinforced hammerhead nail set end, so you can tap in small nails or set nail heads flush before filling over them, all with one tool. The compact size gives excellent control for precision repair work in corners and small awkward areas.

How to Use

  • Load a small amount of joint compound onto the angled blade.
  • Run the blade down the internal corner, following the angle of the corner rather than one flat wall.
  • Work one side of the corner first with light, even pressure, then repeat on the other side.
  • Feather the edges outward from the corner so the repair blends into the surrounding surface.
  • Use the hammerhead end of the handle to tap in any protruding nails or set nail heads before filling over them.
  • Once dry, sand lightly and wipe away dust before painting.
  • Wipe the blade clean between passes and rinse with water while the compound is still wet.

FAQs

What makes this different from a standard joint knife?
The blade is angled, or cranked, rather than flat. This shape is designed specifically for internal corners, letting you smooth compound into the angle evenly instead of the blade sitting proud on one side.

What is the hammerhead end for?
It lets you tap in small nails or set protruding nail heads flush with the surface before filling over them, so you do not need to switch to a separate hammer for small repair jobs.

Can this be used on external corners too?
It is designed primarily for internal corners. External corners are usually better handled with a dedicated corner trowel, though the blade edge can still be used generally for spreading and scraping filler.
