Description
Description
The Purdy Four Edge Carbide Scraper is a heavy duty decorating prep tool for stripping old paint, varnish and wallpaper from flat surfaces such as walls, doors, skirting boards and woodwork. The 2.5 inch blade has four separate cutting edges, two ground for aggressive scraping through thick or stubborn coatings and two ground finer for finishing work, so one tool covers both the rough stripping stage and the final smoothing pass.
When an edge starts to dull, you simply loosen the fixing, rotate the blade to bring a fresh edge into position, and carry on working, which means far less downtime than constantly swapping in a new blade. The handle has a non slip comfort grip that stays secure in the hand even when you are pressing firmly to lift old coatings.
Replacement blades are sold separately as the Purdy Four Edge Carbide Scraper Replacement Blade, so the tool itself can be kept in service indefinitely.
How to Use
- Hold the scraper at a shallow angle to the surface and push or pull the blade in firm, even strokes to lift old paint, varnish or wallpaper.
- Use one of the two aggressive edges first to remove the bulk of thick or flaking coatings.
- Switch to one of the two finishing edges to smooth the surface and remove any remaining flakes before sanding or repainting.
- When an edge dulls, loosen the blade fixing, rotate the blade to a fresh edge, and retighten before continuing.
- Fit a new Purdy Four Edge Carbide Scraper Replacement Blade once all four edges are worn.

FAQs
How many times can I use each blade before replacing it?
Each blade gives you four separate cutting edges. Once one edge dulls, rotate the blade to expose a fresh edge, and repeat until all four edges have been used before fitting a replacement blade.
What is the difference between the aggressive and finishing edges?
Two edges are ground for aggressive scraping, which suits stripping thick layers of old paint or varnish, and two edges are ground finer for finishing work such as smoothing a surface before sanding or repainting.
Can I use this scraper on wallpaper as well as paint?
Yes. The blade is suited to removing loose or lifting wallpaper as well as flaking paint and varnish from flat surfaces such as walls, doors and skirting boards.
